Old Airport Officials Urged to Relax Rules

Hyderabad: Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) officials may soon write to the old airport officials to relax the rules for issuing permissions for constructing houses at Mahendra Hills, which falls under the SCB limits.

As Mahindra Hills is located perpendicular to the old airport’s runway, there are certain restrictions in getting approvals for any kind of construction in that area, due to which the residents have been facing problems.

Even for constructing up to the first floor, prior permission has to be taken from not just the SCB but also from the airport officials. Even for minor constructions, residents have to obtain permission from the airport officials and it takes months sometimes for these permissions to come through. This creates an inordinate delay in the construction works, said J Ramakrishna Ward Five member of the SCB.

As the airport has been shifted now and only a limited number of flights are being operated from here, we want the rules to be relaxed now, explained J Ramakrishna. Residents of Mahendra Hills have made a representation to the SCB for taking steps to relax the rules for issuing permissions for any new construction work.
