Panaji: Bringing huge relief to passengers and airline operators, flight operations at the Goa international airport, Dabolim, returned to their regular time, from 1pm to 8:30am, on Monday evening, after the resurfacing of the main runway was completed, said airport director Srinivasa Rao. "The work was completed two-three days ago and from today (June 15) evening we have returned to flight timings that were in force before April 15," Rao said. With the airport now open for 24x7 operations, the India Navy will conduct combat and reconnaissance training operations as well as routine sorties between 8:30am and 1pm.
Commercial flights, both domestic and international, will be able to land and depart during the remaining hours of operation, Rao said. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Navy has also restricted commercial flights between 7:30pm and 9:30pm by issuing a notice to airmen (NOTAM) due to military night flying operations. In a sign of relaxation, the earlier restriction of flights between 3pm and 4pm during weekdays has been relaxed and a cautionary NOTAM has been issued, which means that commercial flights can land during this time but could face delays in the event of military operations, naval sources explained.
