Wifi on planes? We may get it soon

The Centre may soon junk the archaic no-WiFi-on-the-planes rule, paving way for the Indian carriers to provide internet access on their aircraft. The modalities are already being discussed between the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Department of Telecom, and the technologies being considered are the air-toground, the ATG-4, KU-band satellite signals and ground-to-orbit.

The aviation ministry sources said that Vistara, Air Asia and SpiceJet are especially keen to provide WiFi on air and prefer the air-to-ground technique, but were not willing to comment at this stage.
