27-yr-old falls ill on plane at IGI, dies

New Delhi: A man who felt uneasy before his Mumbai bound flight was about to take off from Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday, died on his way to hospital. The incident delayed the flight by an hour which was scheduled to take off at 10:15 am.

The passenger has been identified as Shashank Bhasin, a 27-year-old resident of Chandigarh, who had boarded Air Indian flight AI 887, from Delhi to Mumbai. Reportedly around 10:13, Bhasin felt uneasy as the plane moved from the bay toward runway for its take-off.

"A person raised alarm that his co-passenger was feeling uneasy. Bhasin reported that he was feeling chest pain and requested medical help. Crew members immediately informed the pilot who conveyed the situation to air traffic controller. Soon as the ATC cleared the path, plane was called back. In the meantime, medical staff was called and Bhasin was taken to Medanta hospital at the airport," airport sources said.
