Coimbatore: As many as 99 cartons of foreign brand cigarettes were seized from a traveller at the Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday morning.
The accused was identified as Abuthahir S (43) who arrived here on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah on Sunday morning.
As many as 99 cartons of Dunhill cigarettes, worth Rs 49,500, were found in his luggage.
Assistant commissioner of customs at the Coimbatore International Airport Anantha Kalyana Krishnan said, "The accused was carrying a bag as his cabin luggage. When the bag was scanned, we found that he was carrying cigarettes in it. The bag was full of cigarette cartons, and nothing else."
