AAI steps up work at airport

Surat: While the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has stepped up a series of infrastructural work at the Surat airport, members of We Want Working Airport at Surat (WWWAS) have started garnering support from the members to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Pasupati Raju demanding air connectivity for the 45 lakh residents in the Diamond City.

Members of WWWAS said the face of Surat airport is set to change by 2016 as the development works, including the extension of the runway from the existing 2250 metres to 2905 metres, construction of perimeter walls, roads, street lights, etc., are undergoing. The earlier cap of two flights per day would be removed once the runway is extended by the end of 2016.
