Airfares from Gulf skyrocket

Scheduled airline and low-cost carriers have increased the fares of their flights from destinations in the West Asia to Kerala, upsetting the travel plans of Non-Resident Keralites (NoRKs) during the forthcoming Ramzan.

The one-way economy fare from Riyadh, Dubai, Bahrain, Sharjah and other destinations to the three airports in the State is in the range of Rs. 36,249 to Rs. 71,005 up to July 18.

The hike has been effected by Air India, its budget airline Air India Express, Air Arabia, Gulf Air, Mihin Lanka, Sri Lankan, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Jet Airways, Fly Dubai, Oman Air and Indigo as there will be heavy demand for seats from this weekend to Kerala.

An economy seat from Riyadh to Thiruvananthapuram is in the range of Rs. 39,454 to Rs. 71,005 on July 15 and 16. Surprisingly, Air India is charging Rs.39,454 while the highest is charged by the low cost carrier Air Arabia.

Dubai is in the range of Rs.36, 249 to Rs.51, 771 on July 17 and 18 and an economy seat in both scheduled airline and budget carrier from Bahrain to the capital is in the range of Rs. 24,708 to Rs. 46,708.
