Cabinet approves amendments to the Anti-Hijacking Bill

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today gave its approval to official amendments to the anti-Hijacking bill 2014 and the consideration of the Bill pending before the Rajya Sabha, official sources said.The amendments to the anti-Hijacking bill are aimed at giving more teeth to the government in dealing with hijacking incidents involving Indian aircraft.

As per the amendments, the definition of hijacking has been made more broad based in accordance with the Beijing protocol.The score of the period of hijacking is broadened from 'in flight' to 'in service'. 'inservice' means the period from the beginning of the flight preparation of the aircraft by ground personnel or by crew for a specific flight until 24 hour after any landing or in case of post landing, the competent authorities take ove he responbsibilities of the aircraft and persons on board.
