Chaat or thali? Airport serves Mumbai's gastronomic diversity

Mumbai: Monsoon has a way of putting piping hot tea and pakoras on many a table. For passengers waiting for that boarding call at Mumbai airport though, a downpour usually means more time to kill as flights get delayed. But for the next four weeks, delays would go down better as more time at the airport means one can sit back, sip chai from a kullad, munch on pakoras and enjoy the rain.

For, spread across the domestic terminals 1A, 1B and 1C are over 40 food outlets set up exclusively as part of a month-long Mumbai Food Festival. The first-of-its-kind festival which kicked off last week, has stalls selling traditional Maharashtrian delicacies such as kothimbir wadi, sabudana wada, solkadi and even a Maharashtrian thali, and others selling chai and khari, bhajiyaa and chaat. There are also beverages and cocktails named after the city, like Mumbai Meri Jaan, Mumbai Naarangi, apart from the popular vodka pani puri.
