Gold bars seized at Kochi airport: passenger from Ireland arrested

The Air Intelligence Unit, Air Customs at the Cochin International Airport seized 10 kg of gold worth Rs 2.50 crore from an Irish passenger who arrived from Dubai by Emirates Airlines on Monday last when he tried to pass through the Green Channel.

The passenger was intercepted at the exit gate of the Arrival Hall, on suspicion that he was carrying contraband goods, a customs release said here today.

When questioned by Customs officers whether he had any gold or other contraband goods with him, he answered in the negative. However, on suspicion, a detailed search was carried out which resulted in the recovery of ten gold bars, weighing 10 KG. They were concealed under the pockets of waist coat, over coat and in the pockets of the pant worn by the passenger.
