Kolkata no-fly zone for private drones

Kolkata:  Kolkata can't go the US way in the service sector, with drones flying to deliver pizzas at home. In the first such a decision taken by the top brass, Kolkata Police has denied permission to a businessman to fly his private drone in the city skies. Lalbazar joins the list of other police like in Chennai and Mumbai, which are already turning such requests down.

Cops have also decided on denying licences to unmanned aerial vehicles, which will see their official launch next week, saying "such experiments can take place only after proper laws are made."

Sources in Lalbazar said the businessman had approached them on Thursday. "We have asked him to get permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and come back to us. While we are not following the Chennai model of arresting anyone, we want to be sure that the safety and security of the city is not hampered," an IPS officer said.
