Madurai airport to get 2 aerobridges by Aug 31 after safety clearance

MADURAI: The Madurai International Airport is all set to get its own aerobridges by August 31, with the study on the safety aspects to be completed soon.

Airport director, Kuldeep Singh, said that the aerobridges have already been installed and that a safety study was underway. He added that passengers are also made to participate in the safety tests. Safety is measured from their point of view also and the results of the study will be submitted to the director general of civil aviation, (DGCA) by the end of this week.

Following that, the site acceptance has to be done by the vendors as well as the engineers of the Airports Authority of India. The approval of the DGCA would take about 30 to 45 days after which the clearance would be given for opening the aerobridges for passenger traffic.

The new aerobridges would help provide easy access to the aircraft to the passengers. At present, buses transport the passengers to their respective aircrafts from the terminal. "The aerobridges are a free passenger amenity being provided by the Airports Authority of India," Singh said.
