Sutli bombs prevent bird-hits at Amausi

Lucknow: A loud bang at Amausi airport just before an aircraft approaches or takes off from the runway should be nothing to panic about. Alarmed with the large number of birds flying around the tarmac during the monsoon season leading to cases of 'bird-hit', airport authorities have resorted to bursting of crackers to scare away the avians.

Sources said airport authorities have procured 'sutli-bombs' in large numbers to burst before a taxiing aircraft, or the one approaching the runway. "These crackers make noise loud enough to scare the birds which often fly around the runway during this season," said airport director S C Hota. He said the exercise will be carried out for the next 15 days when there is intermittent rainfall.
