Businessman nearly enters flight with old boarding pass

Thane:  A serious security lapse at the city airport on Thursday led to a Thane resident almost boarding a flight to Bangalore with a wrong web boarding pass.

Sharadchandra Lohokare (50), who was to travel on 9W411 Jet Airways flight at 6.35am, took a printout of his boarding pass through web check-in on Wednesday. But Lohokare accidentally took a printout of an old boarding pass of the same airline. "I travel three to four times a month on business and had taken an extra printout on a previous trip to Bangalore on July 28. As the flight details were the same, except the date, I didn't realise the error," he told TOI.

As the businessman had a web boarding pass, he bypassed the airline check-in counter and went straight for his first security check. "They let me through. In fact, I approached a Jet Airways employee to help me with the gate number. He directed me to gate A2 and even wrote it on my pass. After the frisking and screening process was over, another security person saw my pass and stamped it with the August 6 date," Lohokare said.

Having cleared all security checks, he was stopped when the barcode scanner at the boarding gate refused to validate the pass. "While I still had a soft copy of the correct boarding pass, I wasn't allowed to board the flight. By the time I could get a printout, the flight had taken off."
