Mumbai: The state government and the railways are exploring a project to link the proposed CST-Panvel hi-speed corridor and the Navi Mumbai International Airport for better connectivity.
Highly placed sources in the state government said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu are keen that this 8.5-km offshoot is constructed.
A bureaucrat-level discussion between the state and the railways has been scheduled for the next week in Mantralaya to set the project in motion. The meeting will be held at the office of the principal secretary of Urban Development department, said the sources.
Once operational, the international airport will draw a large number of flyers from south Mumbai. "Connecting the airport with the high-speed corridor will help them reach their destination much faster," said Sanjay Bhatia, MD of the City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
