Customs seize gold bars worth Rs 1.82 crore from aircraft lavatory

Mumbai: The customs officials have seized eight bars of gold worth Rs 1.82 crore from the washroom of an Indigo Airlines plane that arrived from Dubai on early Monday morning after being tipped off by an airline security staff. Around 2 am, officials of the C batch deputed on night duty received information from security staff of Indigo airlines about something amiss during a routine security drill that was being carried out by them on the plane.

"The gold bars, weighing one kg each, were stuck to the washroom wall using white tape. It was hidden behind the toilet roll," a customs official said.
