New Delhi: Leaving home at a leisurely pace, thereby delaying the flight he was to operate by almost two hours, has cost an Air India pilot dear.
The airline on Wednesday suspended the Airbus A-320 commander and barred him from entering the airline office or leaving Delhi without its permission. AI has also directed the commander to surrender his pilot-in-command card and not "engage in any employment or vocation" during the suspension period for which he will not be paid any wage.
The action comes after the commander was rostered to operate Delhi-Patna flight AI 409 on Wednesday (August 12). AI 409 had a schedule departure time of 7.20am but took off at 9.13am on Wednesday.
This delay will also result in further consequential delay on some other flights and inconvenience more passengers. Pending inquiry, you are placed under suspension with immediate effect," said Meenakshi Dua, AI's executive director (north), in her order to the pilot.
