Vijayawada: Works on the Gannavaram Airport terminal building seem to have hit a roadblock after a leading construction company, which has interests in Hyderabad, bid for tenders by quoting high costs for taking up the project.
Under the airport expansion works, the Airport Authority of India (AAI), New Delhi, had invited bidders for constructing a swanky terminal building and passenger lounges. The estimated cost was Rs. 86 crore, but the construction company quoted Rs. 176 crore, said a senior official at the airport.
The local airport officials have financial limitations and cannot take up works, which cost more than Rs.1 crore. Hence, tenders were invited by AAI, he said. But, with the company quoting a very high cost for the works, there could be a possibility of officials going for re-tendering. They may also consider relaxing the eligibility criteria norms to ensure more companies bid for the works, he added.
