Govt grounds PPP revamp plan for 4 airports

New Delhi: After extending the request for quotation (RFQ) submission dates for more than 5 times, the Civil Aviation Ministry has now decided to shelve plans to revamp airports in Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur and Ahmadabad on the PPP mode as it was done for Delhi and Mumbai, sources told Bloomberg TV India on Monday.

The decision comes after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the two ministers handling civil aviation, sources said.

The government has already spent around Rs 5,000 crore in modernizing these airports, which was one of the reasons for not handing it over to private parties, said an official who requested anonymity.

The official added that the concerns of the employees who wrote to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah could be a major reason for scrapping the PPP revamp plan.
