Inclement weather forces AI flight to return

Vijayawada: Passengers travelling in Vijayawada-bound Air India flight counted tense moments after it failed to land at the Gannavaram airport and returned to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad on Friday due to inclement weather.

The aircraft 544 with over 82 passengers, including Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao, was supposed to land at the Gannavaram airport at 4.40 p.m.

'The flight reached the airport, but owing to bad weather, it did not land on the runway and returned to the RGIA.

After getting clearance from the Air Traffic Control, the flight landed at Shamshabad around 7.50 p.m., Airport Director M. Rajkishore said.
