Kumaon to soon get better air connectivity

Nainital: The Kumaon region, which has many picturesque places like Nainital and Almora, is set to get better air connectivity soon.

At a meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee on Saturday, it was decided to develop Pantnagar, the nodal airport of the region, as a cargo hub and to increase the length of the runway from its present length of 1,372m to 1,865m.

Other key recommendations included acquisition of land for the expansion of the airport along with introduction of new flights to Dehradun and Delhi.

Director of the airport, N Subramaniam, said, "The main points discussed were acquisition of land for expansion, development of the airport as a cargo hub to fulfil the demands of adjacent industrial area and increasing connectivity through more flights.

Honourable MP and ex-CM Bhagat Singh Koshayri promised that he would have a word with the Centre regarding expansion and development of the airport."
