Kanpur: The night landing facility at the air-strip in Saifai in Etawah is expected to be operational soon so that aircraft can land and take off at night.
District magistrate Nitin Bansal said that the work of installation of lighting instruments at Saifai air-strip is underway at war-footing. "The installation of night landing instrument costs around Rs 8 to 10 crore and it may become operational within three months," he said.
Sources informed that a meeting between chief secretary Alok Ranjan and a private organization took place in Lucknow recently to discuss the issue.
After a letter from the civil aviation department recently, a team of AAI officials had inspected the airstrip. They were accompanied by senior officials of civil aviation in state government and officials of Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) Limited that is re-carpeting the airstrip.
