Kolkata: Enthused by the government decision to retain Kolkata airport instead of handing it over to a private party, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will go ahead with its ambitious plans to make Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport into India's finest facility.
Speaking to TOI, Kolkata airport director AK Sharma said plans that were either on hold or progressing in slow motion as the airport was to be privatized would now begin rolling in full steam. "We will move fast to sign contracts on retail, duty-free shops and advertisement that are pending for quite some time," he said.
Not only will AAI expedite the process so that the contracts are in place in two-three months with retail stores and duty-free shops starting operations by this year-end, it also plans to alter the contract period from short to long term to attract more bidders.
