UP, Rajasthan, Haryana vie for second airport near Delhi

New Delhi: Competition for the second airport near Delhi has heated up with three neighbouring states pitching hard to grab the coveted project that can change the fortune of the winning state.

So much so, even the government appears to be in two minds on whether to make it public or not. Just a couple of weeks after denying any proposal of the government to develop an airport in the NCR region, Minister of State for Aviation Mahesh Sharma told the Lok Sabha on Monday that the ministry has received proposals from Haryana and Rajasthan for new airports.

While Rajasthan has proposed a green-field airport in Alwar, Haryana has pitched for Rohtak.
