New Delhi: A 52-year-old housekeeping worker at IGI Airport lost his right leg and left foot on Friday after being run over by an Air India bus used for transferring passengers between the terminal and aircraft.
The accident occurred around 3.50pm when the victim, Vijaypal, was working in the apron area C 31 to C 33, where planes are parked. One of his colleagues told police the Air India bus— AILPC05—that knocked him down was speeding and crushed his legs. The driver, Akash Deep, stopped the bus and, together with other airport workers who were nearby, pulled out a bleeding Vijaypal.
The injured man was rushed to a hospital inside the airport in an airport ambulance but doctors referred him to Indian Spinal Injuries Center in Vasant Kunj where his right leg below the knee and left foot had to be amputated.
