1 More Held in Gold Smuggling Case

Kochi: The Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB) of Customs, which is investigating the gold smuggling case through the Cochin International Airport, on Tuesday recorded the arrest of a key accused in the smuggling case, taking the total number of arrested in the case to 34.

According to Customs officials, Ismayil, 41, of Muvattupuzha, a key accused in the case, surrendered before the officials in the morning. He used to take the contraband from the carriers or airport staff who facilitated the smuggling through the airport, and hand over the bullion to racket handler Noushad of Muvattupuzha, who was earlier arrested by the Customs officials.
