After Bird Strike, Python Scare Bites Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik International Airport, struggling to contain bird-hit menace, has found yet another problem on its hands. This time, slithery reptiles.

On Friday, a nine feet long python appeared at the apron area of the airport scaring the airport staff. The reptile, sighted from near the 7th bay of the airport, was immediately bundled into a bag by fire fighters whose unit is located nearby. The Snake Helpline was informed and the python was taken outside the airport area.

This is not the first time that snakes have appeared from the operational areas of the airport which has been a haven for jackals, foxes, jungle cats and hyenas. In the past, Cobra and Russell Vipers too were sighted and captured but python is a first. The fire fighters said the reptile was apparently trailing its prey- a bird.
