Agency mulls court option to end airport parking logjam

Kolkata: The private agency managing the airport parking lot has threatened to take the Kolkata airport management to court, saying it is being deprived of legitimate earnings because of the decision to allow taxis to ply from the airport without charge in a 10-minute window. The agency, MS Enterprise Pvt Ltd, alleges this is breach of contract.

The decision to withdraw the parking fee of Rs 100 that the agency was charging app-based and luxury cabs was taken on Tuesday following a snap blockade by cab operators. Bidhannagar Police told Airports Authority of India (AAI) that forcing cabs to cough up Rs 100 even when they exited the airport within the 10-minute free period was unjustified and would continue to stir trouble. The police were also perturbed by protests by passengers in the social media.
