Ahmedabad airport to get its own police force

On an average, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport sees traffic of more than 52 lakh passengers each year, both national and international, along with VVIPs. Larger space and increasing traffic require police supervision but unfortunately, with the Sardarnagar police caught up in routine matters and monitoring VVIP movement, cops are overworked. To make up for this, the home department has approved a new police station for the airport area. The new police force will likely be operational after Diwali.

"The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport falls under jurisdiction of the Sardarnagar police station. However, officials at the police station are overworked as they are handling routine matters and monitoring law and order along with traffic movement when VVIPs are around. Keeping this in mind, the department has given approval for a police station dedicated to the airport which will have jurisdiction on the area inside the airport premises and the route to the airport, from the airport circle," a source from the home department explained.
