AI passengers stranded at Gannavaram airport

Vijayawada:  As many as 70 passengers were stranded at Gannavaram Airport on Sunday when a technical snag forced the cancellation of their Air India flight.

According to sources, the pilot of Delhi-bound AI 460 noticed the glitch shortly before the take-off that was scheduled at 9 am. Several passengers complained about the lack of proper response from the authorities concerned since alternative arrangements were not reportedly made until 12 pm.

Reports quoted the airport authorities as saying to the passengers that it is the airline's responsibility to take care of them in such a scenario.

"We were kept in the dark for hours on end and had to wait in the terminal. Around noon, arrangements were made at last but not everyone could leave as there is limited connectivity to Delhi from here. We are also hearing that if they cannot accommodate us all in today's flights, we might have to wait till tomorrow," said a passenger on the condition of anonymity.

The DRI team with the confiscated gold went by the flight to Chennai to carry out further investigations, they added.
