‘AI planes must outshine other airlines’ aircraft’

New Delhi: Air India planes may soon gleam like those of some well-run private airlines, if the new chairman Ashwani Lohani has his way. In his first directive after taking over on Monday, the railway engineer has asked the airline brass to ensure that AI planes "are cleaner than anyone else's".

So far among Indian carriers, low cost IndiGo has been known to be almost fanatic about cabin cleanliness. In fact even on hopping its flights like Delhi-Jammu-Srinagar, maintenance staff comes on board the stopover (Jammu) and quickly vacuum the galley.

Lohani is learnt to have told his officials that AI planes should not be cleaner than just IndiGo but "more than anyone else's". The new CMD has clearly adopted PM Narendra Modi's cleanliness slogan and is aiming for a "swachh AI".
