Air India pilots’ strike threat blows over

New Delhi: Air travellers in the coming festive-cum-holiday season can heave a sigh of relief. The threat of strike by Air India pilots has blown over, for now.

Whenever there has been strike by pilots of an airline in the past, causing a sudden shortage of flights forcing flyers to look for last-minute alternatives, other airlines have hiked their fares. But it now emerges this holiday season is unlikely to witness a repeat of that.
The Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA, union of erstwhile Indian Airlines' pilots) met AI's new chairman Ashwani Lohani on Wednesday, who assured to redress of their genuine grievances while asking them not to strike work. People who attended that meeting said they "were convinced Lohani meant business and was sincere in his assurance to resolve long-pending disagreements."
