Air intelligence unit at Patna airport to monitor movements of VVIPs

With the Election Commission notifying on Wednesday the first phase of state assembly election on October 12, filing of nomination papers began. The first was an Independent from Belhar in Banka district.

Naresh Kumar Priyadarshi (39), a serviceman holding multiple degrees in engineering, is the first to officially step into the poll arena. Notification was issued for altogether 49 assembly constituencies in 10 districts of Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Nawada and Jamui.

"Over Rs 34.10 lakh, including Rs 29.50 lakh in the state capital, was seized on Wednesday. Fine collected from vehicle checking was over Rs 25 lakh," additional chief electoral officer (CEO) of Bihar R Lakshmanan said. Police also seized 11,580 litres of illicit liquor. One person was arrested with 5kg of ganja in Rohtas.
