Better infrastructure sought for Tuticorin airport

Tuticorin: Priority should be accorded with allocation of more funds to expand and modernise Tuticorin airport with adequate infrastructure. Currently, Tuticorin airport could accommodate only smaller aircraft and more infrastructure was required to attract big aircraft services to international destinations, said J. Jeyasingh Thiyagaraj Natterjee, Tuticorin MP, at the Airport Advisory Committee meeting here on Monday.

Presiding over the meeting, Mr. Natterjee, who is the chairman of the committee, said that all demands would be represented to the Civil Aviation Ministry to get necessary infrastructure.

He said that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had brought about scores of investment opportunities during the Global Investors’ Meet in Chennai and Tuticorin district attracted industrial investments to the tune of Rs. 68,180 crore.

Next to Chennai, Tuticorin, which had four ways of transportation, was getting developed, he said.
