Gold Hunt Continues at Kochi Airport

Kochi: Despite the strict vigil and monitoring by the Customs authorities, smuggling of gold into the state continues unabated through the Cochin International Airport. Hardly 24 hours after Customs sleuths seized 3.7 kg of gold (worth about Rs.91.27 lakh), from a flight that arrived from Dubai at the Cochin International Airport, the Customs Intelligence Unit made two back to back gold seizures from the passengers who landed here from Dubai late on Wednesday.  According to officials, in the first case the officials seized about 800 gm of gold worth Rs 21 lakhs from a passenger who arrived by a Malindo Air flight from Singapore late night. Investigations revealed that the gold, in the form of rods, were concealed inside wooden spin tops in his baggage.
