Govt to relax ITP norms to allow foreigners to take scheduled flights

Foreign tourists coming to India in charter flights will soon have the flexibility to take scheduled flights for their onward journey. The government has decided to relax the inclusive tour package (ITP) guidelines to allow this in a bid to boost high-end foreign tourist footfall in the country.

The present aviation rule does not allow tourists coming in pre-booked charter flights to fly by a scheduled airline. It requires them to fly in the same charter and that too as per pre-booked flight schedule. For example, a tourist coming by such flights cannot take domestic airlines like Jet Airways, Air India and IndiGo for travel in or out of the country.

Tourists coming by ITP charter flights are also restricted from taking foreign scheduled commercial flights. They are, however, allowed to take scheduled commercial flight in case of medical emergency.

“The ministry is in the process of revising the ITP guidelines. It is not a global practice. Once the rule is revised, it would be included in the aviation policy,” an official said.
