Hoax callers face life term

New Delhi: From now on, anyone making a hoax bomb threat would be booked under the stringent Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Civil Aviation Aircrafts (SUASCAA), which is punishable by life imprisonment, a senior government official said. At present, this section is invoked based on the discretion of the local police, but the government now plans to make it a mandatory exercise in order to deter hoax callers.

The decision comes in the wake of the arrest of Bengaluru-based sales executive M.G. Gokul, who sent a hoax bomb threat through WhatsApp last week, which delayed six flights, causing a loss of Rs. 8 crore to the civil aviation industry.
