The Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) has commenced talks with various international airlines to rope them in to operate services to the airport.
The KIAL authorities have already begun correspondence with nine international airlines, including the national carrier Air India, as the Kannur airport is set to commence commercial flight operations by mid-2016.
Official sources said the initiative was based on the talks KIAL managing director G. Chandramouli and others had with various airlines officials at the World Routes 2015 forum in Durban. The platform was used to showcase the airport and the opportunities that would be part of commencing air connectivity to north Kerala.
Besides Air India, KIAL has approached Emirates, Oman Air, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia, FlyDubai, Ethihad, Kuwait Airways, Vistara and Maldivian Airlines.
