NSCBI airport to get 20 megawatt solar plant

The Airport Authority of India has decided to set up a solar power plant inside NSCBI airport to meet the growing power needs of the airport, AAI chairman RK Srivastava said on Thursday.
The AAI has identified 55 acres of land at the airport to set up the plant, which would have a capacity of 20 megawatts, Srivastava said. He was talking to newsmen this afternoon at the NSCBI new terminal building.
The land has been identified near the runways. A proposal has been sent to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for clearance. The AAI will float a tender and begin work soon after DGCA gives its nod. The project would be completed within this current financial year, Srivastava said, adding that Rs.130 crore would be spent to complete the project.
Kolkata airport has a lot of land but most of it is not being used productively at present, a senior NSCBI airport official said.
