Students Protest Odisha Government Move on OUAT Land for Airport

Bhubaneswar: More than 300 students of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) staged a demonstration in front of administrative block on the campus on Monday demanding withdrawal of the State Government’s move to allot university land for expansion of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA).

While a major chunk of 47 acre land, which the Government has proposed to hand over to BPIA, belongs to OUAT,  this land houses sensitive research units.

The land accommodates rice and pulses breeding centres, agro-metrological observatory, open-top chamber (for research under controlled conditions), a coconut orchard of 10 acres, veterinary goat farm and pond-based integrated farming model, sources said.
