On Tuesday, when leading low-cost carrier Indigo airline went public with an IPO, rival airline SpiceJet launched a full-fledged fare war, offering domestic tickets at as low as Rs 749, while its international tickets started at Rs 3,999, for the travel period between February to October next year. While additional taxes as statutory are applicable on domestic flights, the international prices are all-inclusive.
Within minutes of SpiceJet announcing the discount offer, Indigo and AirAsia reacted with a similar offer, leading to a tremendous surge in travel booking on the airline portal.
According to SpiceJet, an all inclusive one-way fare for direct flights encompasses all metro cities and some attractive tourist destinations in the country. Under this offer, tickets on routes like Delhi to Amristar, Ahmedabad to Mumbai are all priced at Rs 749 base fare (taxes will be additional).
AirAsia has announced special flight fares of Rs 1,590 for travel from Bengaluru to Visakhapatnam, Goa, Kochi, and Pune, with travel dates starting immediately to February 29, 2016.
