Bid to build cargo terminal at Dabolim suffers setback

Panaji: Airport Authority of India's attempt to build and operate a state-of-the art 24x7 cargo terminal at Dabolim in the old international terminal encountered turbulence as successive tenders to select a reputed agency to operate the cargo facility have failed.

The airport director's office has floated a tender twice but on both occasions just a single company participated, the same company on both occasions.

"We are positive that something will develop soon. One competitor stated that they could not submit their bid due to technical glitches so we have to now decide whether to extend the tender or refloat it. But we are positive that definitely within the next 2-4 months we will have an agency which will operate, provide the manpower and the machines to run the cargo terminal," director Srinivasa Rao said.
