Chennai: he common user domestic cargo terminal (CUDCT), which has become operational now at Chennai Airport, has the potential to handle more than 4,000 tonnes of cargo a month, according to airport director Deepak Shastri. The terminal was inaugurated a couple of days ago by Neera Rawat, Executive Director (Cargo), Airport Authority of India, New Delhi.
The expected volume of cargo handled at the new facility would be 40,000 metric tonnes a year. In addition, it will bring revenue to both the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the airlines that handle the cargo. The CUDCT has been created in an area of 2,610 square metres with an additional 300 square metres open area with an objective of integrated service under one roof and to act as a one-stop solution for cargo customers and airlines.
