Chennai Airport Records Slowest Growth in the Country

Chennai: Chennai Airport has had nothing but bad press for a while now and while the number of people complaining about its alleged shortfalls only keeps rising, the airports other numbers lag behind its counterparts’. According to data from the Airports Authority of India, Chennai airport is one of the slowest growing airports in the country – both in terms of passenger traffic and aircraft movements. Chennai Airport saw total passenger traffic grow by 5.2 per cent during the month of August compared to last year. It’s a decent growth figure, you might think, but take a look at India’s other airports in major cities, the one that comes the closest to Chennai growth rate is still two times more. Hyderabad, the second lowest, has seen a growth rate of 11 per cent in the total number of passengers. Others like Delhi, Bangalore and Ahmedabad are way ahead. Delhi saw passenger traffic grow by 15.3 per cent, while Bangalore and Ahmedabad saw 21.2 per cent and 22.5 per cent growth respectively.
