AGRA: Following several incidents of breach of airspace around the Taj Mahal in the past, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for security of the monument, has decided to pursue the matter of 'no-flying zone' with the director general of civil aviation (DGCA). A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by CISF inspector-general (north sector) Sikha Goel and attended by senior officials of the administration, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the city police.
Following several incidents of flights crossing the airspace over the Taj Mahal, the Agra circle of the ASI had recently requested higher authorities of the agency to help get the airspace around the monument declared a no-fly zone. Before that, the CISF had written to the ASI in this regard. According to police, though there is no official no-fly zone over the Taj, by convention, a 2.5 km-radius around the monument is considered a strict no-go area by security agencies.
