Construction proposal soon for Mopa airport

Panaji: The Goa government will soon float a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the construction of the new greenfield international airport at Mopa in North Goa. The state cabinet on Wednesday gave nod to the proposal to float a RFP to construct the airport.
Addressing a press conference along with Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that initially the estimated cost of the new airport was Rs 3,000 crore but now it is estimated to cost around Rs 3,300 crore as the project will include a six-lane expressway, which will be built to link the airport to the National Highway 17.
“The state government has added many other conditions in the concessional agreement of RFP, which include a six-lane express highway from the NH-17 to the Mopa airport, an aviation skills development centre to train Goans and employment to 75 local trained youth every year by the concessioner, who will construct the airport on public-private partnership basis,” Parsekar said.
