Kochi: The Customs Department and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in a joint operation arrested eight persons at the Nedumbassery airport while attempting to smuggle in 1,600 gm of gold.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials apprehended the Chennai-based gang when they arrived at the airport by a Malindo Air flight from Hong Kong.
The passengers had not made any declaration about the gold they were carrying. During interrogation, they confessed to have concealed gold biscuits in their rectum. It was found that each of the arrested men, hailing from Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, had concealed 100 gm of gold biscuit inside their body.
