Kannur Airport runway length will not be reduced: Kerala minister

Kannur: Kerala minister for rural development and Planning, K CJoseph today said the construction of runway in Kannur InternationalAirport Limited (KIAL) at Mattanur would be to a length of 3400 metersand there is no move from the government or KIAL to reduce it to 2950 at any cost.

Talking to news persons at Kannur press club, Mr Joseph ridiculed thatCPI(M) MLA E P Jayarajan scheduled fast agitation on tomorrow wouldonly considered as a political game, for demanding the extension ofrun way. There is no need to conduct a fast agitation by E P Jayarajanbefore the KIAL office on October 20. The people of Kerala has knownall the matters about the development of airport, so the people wouldrecoganize the cheating of E P Jayarajan, Mr Joseph added.

Mr Jayarajan also failed to report about the reducing of runway beforethe Assembly yet, so tomorrow's agitation is only a political gimmick.Mr Joseph said the construction works of Kannur Airport would completewith in time bound manner and the trial land of aircraft would beconduct before December 31, this year. The government aim is tocomplete the first phase of works in May 2016 with a 3400 meters ofrunway, he said.
