CPI(M) Central Committee Member and Mattanur Constituency MLA E P Jayarajan has said he would organize a sit-in agitation from 1000 to 1800 hrs on October 20 before the construction site of Kannur Airport to mark their protest against the government decision to inaugurate the airport before completing the runway work.
Talking to news persons here today, Mr Jayarajan demanded the runway of the Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) should be extended to 4000 meters . The Congress-led UDF Government is trying to inaugurate the airport by trial landing a small aircraft after constructing 2400 meters of runway by December 2015. Mr Jayarajan said this is only seen as a election stunt He said this would effect the overall development of the State and weaken its stance to be one of the modernized airports in the country. The people of Mattanur have agreed to give away the enough lands for the extension of runway.
