Rise in passenger flow may win city international flights

Bhubaneswar: The increasing number of overseas passengers in feeder flights from the city has generated a ray of hope that there may be direct international flights from here soon. The Biju Patnaik International Airport authorities feel they would be able to attract an international player soon to run a flight from here.

At present, two feeder flights of Air India are taking international passengers up to New Delhi from where the passengers board direct flights to different destinations. Three months after launching the first feeder flight, Air India added another one on Sunday.

"The passenger flow is encouraging. On the first day of launch of Air India's second flight, 17 passengers booked tickets from here and boarded the plane. In the first flight on the same day, there were about 40 overseas passengers," said airport director Sharad Kumar. He added that the success of feeder flights would help the airport authorities woo other international players.
